TEACHER

'Character is revealed through behaviour. Not what you say. Not what you feel  but what you do in order to overcome obstacles.'

As a teacher his goal is simple: To have actors fall in love with the craft of acting so that they approach their work, not as a chore, but as a way of life that excites and challenges them.

MICHAEL RODGERS

MICHAEL RODGERS

His belief is that dedication and commitment to the craft is key to everything. Studying techniques passed down from Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen and clarified through the brilliant and thoughtful mind of his teacher Larry Moss, Michael realised that having technique is key to one’s confidence and, without it, the actor is lost.

AT WORK

'For most of us there is no elevator to success but most people forget there are stairs.'

Working in groups and individually Michael works in the first part of each class on physical, vocal and emotional work. Using exercises that encourage and demand that the actor go beyond their normal comfort zone.

In the second part of the class Michael works on scenes and monologues designed to help the actor understand and exercise concepts of their technique. His belief that the actor is in service of the writer reminds the actor to understand the time, place and life of the writer.

By choosing specific material for every individual , the actor is encouraged, through the chosen text, to go beyond their own person inhibitions pushing their ability to the next level.
